Biography
From an exceptionally early age Andrew Laws absorbed literature like a sponge. By the age of nine Andrew had absorbed everything of interest in his parents’ house and set about devouring the library at the small rural primary school he attended in Suffolk (they let him in spite of an unfortunate incident involving being sick on ‘The Twits’). Fast running out of things to read Andrew set about writing his own book, and before much longer had completed the A-Z of cats and promptly sent his only copy off to Hamlyn. A few years later Andrew started work on his first novel; a tale of science fiction involving curious giant aliens that lived near Cheddar Gorge in Somerset (they came in search of cheese). Despite starting well the twin distractions of girls, and his own body hair sprouting out of the most unlikely of places meant that sadly this epic work was never completed.
It was during this challenging time in his life that Andrew discovered a lifelong passion for attempting to make pleasant sounds on the bass guitar, although it has never occurred to him to learn how to actually play.
Andrew’s school years were an interesting mix of constant grief with those in charge, and writing at a standard so high that his teachers voiced concern to his parents that he wasn’t responsible for the work he submitted; they assumed his homework been copied from unknown established authors many years his senior.
Between fleeing academia (then) and writing his first novel (now) Andrew has written for countless publications around the world, regularly contributed to magazines, toured with bands and played on the telly. Oh. and he also found a very tolerant wife.
Andrew lives in Suffolk with his wife, three cats and assorted other beasts. He is still waiting to hear back from Hamlyn about the A-Z of cats.
